Humility

When is anyone not wrong on a dayly basis? I dont think a person can be perfect everyone makes mistakes. Otherwise, whats the point of living your life? You should have a bunch of mistakes to learn from and this is where humility comes in. You have to be humble at times when you succeed and when you fail take the hardship but also learn from what you did wrong. This is what teachers need to show students. That even if they get something wrong theres no reason in getting angry they must come back from it and do better next time.

Collaboration

I think the effectiveness of a team is strongly based on how well the team members can take eachothers faults and weaknesses and turn them into positives. Every team member must be able to work with one another because as it is said, "A team is only as strong as its weakest link."

Collaboration is different from group work in that everyone must do their part in a project. When youre doing plain group work someone can do the whole project and turn it in for the group. But, collaborating takes parts from each person in the group and turns it into a whole.

Efficacy

Well just as we watched in the movie/parody about teaching confidence and self awareness plays an enourmous role in teaching. If you dont have confidence there is no possible way to have control over your class and to make your students believe that you know what youre teaching. You have to be able to let your students know that you are going to be the conductor of the class and they arent going to run the show.

Inventiveness

To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. -Thomas Edison

Looking at this topic I would think of it more as creativity. Everyone has some creavtive side to them whether it is in music, sports, the business world etc. We all have something in us that can be considered creative. But, where do we get this? I think it all start in school or the first place you learn things. Unlike places that have the more communist state, we have a country that is more free minded and willing to produce affective and creative ideas.

I learned very early that being creative is good thing to most people. In 4th grade we had a art contest to create a cover page for Iowa Savings Bonds. The most thoughtful and creative was the one who would win. Well my friend and I were the finalists, he represented the state with a field of corn and I went with a little different subject. He won, but that wasnt that big of deal to me. We were recognized by our teacher and faculty for having very creative and quality imaginations. It wasnt just that fact that we had to do this for class. It was that we had free roam to do what we wanted and we did this on our own as only 4th graders. We built something up from nothing and made it something great! I think this is one example from my life that shows that schools show praise for being inventive and creative.

Role Playing Affectiveness

Going back to the questions about the role playing situation. I believe this way of teaching is definitely a legitimate source for having students learn. I think it keeps the students in the discussion and gives the something to do besides sitting, listening and taking notes only. It gives the student something to think about and might give the more soft spoken kids a chance to say something they wouldnt say in other situations.

The advantages of a straight lecture is that a teacher can get direct points across and its less of a hassle than having to control a class. The disadvantages would be the students get bored easily of this type of learning and will eventually lose interest. They want to see entertainment and do something fun.

I think students should know basic skills. They need to know public speaking, especially in our situation. But in regards to needing to know exact things about a subject I dont think that is completely right. You can give a sheet of information, like we received, and the situation that is set up will work fine.

I liked what we did the other night. It kept everyone into class instead of sleeping or bored. Even though everyone didn't talk. It got people thinking about situation and like the "superintendent" said it had the emotions flowing.

PASSION

Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. W.B. Yeats

When it comes to good or great teachers I would say most of them had this quality about them. They were the ones who showed up early and left late. If you needed help, they were willing to give up their time to help you. They were the ones who wanted you to share their passion with you, so one day you might want to continue what they've started.

One of my best teachers that I can say who exuded tremendous amounts of passion was my baseball coach. A lot of guys had a tendency to be laid back or get bored at practice but Coach was the one to bring excitement to the field. You never really knew what he was going to do next. Things like telling random stories how stuff happened to him to getting angry and throwing stuff or simply just being engaged and super excited when he was trying to make a point. He was always doing something to show that he wanted to be there even when we didnt. I remember one time we had a film session and my swing wasnt looking the best. I really didnt think the point he was making was legitimate but he was going to make me see what I was doing wrong. He hopped up on one of the desks grabbed a bat from underneath and proceeded to show me what I did wrong. I played great after that because I really focused on what he was doing. That is what I call Passion when a teacher, coach, whoever is willing to go up and above the norm for a pupil to learn something.

Authenticity

Defining Authenticity isnt the easiest thing to do. I would say it is being able to be yourself and being genuine no matter the circumstances. I think there is a point where you can over do it to an extent that the kids just wont care. Thats when you have to pulls the reigns on yourself a bit and realize that maybe you dont have to do as much or just the opposite realize you have to step it up a bit.

I think a student can tell if a teacher is unauthentic or fake just by the way they act or treat them. If they are overly happy all the time or very strict all the time, but they dont seem to act that way outside of class you know that they are fake. I know a alot of my teachers from high school were that way. Either I knew them because they were my coaches or they were family friends. But when you know that they are your friends outside of class and they try to be strict on you in class its just hard to take them seriously. Just as little kids would lose the respect of a teacher who looks nice but is down right mean to there faces.

The consequences in other words would be that the students wouldnt exactly care what you are saying because they know you dont mean it. Also they would think that since you arent exactly being serious with them, then why do the work if they dont have to be serious.

It really is a give and take situation. You have to be serious to a point or nice to a point but, you have to still be yourself no matter what the siutation is otherwise whats the point of you teaching. Get another person with those characteristics to do the same thing.
